Internationella Engelska Skolan in Liljeholmen opened its doors in August 2014 with a modest school body of just over 350 students. The school started with just three of its eventual seven floors complete and a teaching staff of 25.
The first principal Jonas Gehlin began his teaching career at IES Bromma which allowed him a great deal of perspective and appreciation for all facets of school life. In 2016 he decided to go back to teaching.
In the school’s second year it doubled in size, with the 5th and 6th floors been unveiled and a large influx of new staff and students. The school’s house system was also launched this year, each student is placed into one of four houses (Curie, Nobel, Bell or Newton) and work together on various sporting, social and cultural endeavours throughout the year.
In June 2016 Annakarin Johansson took over from Jonas Gehlin as the new principal. Ms Johansson previously worked in IES Enskede since 2004, she taught Swedish, So and Maths for many years, and was also a Head of Year, and Head of Department before starting as the Academic Manager of the Senior school in Enskede in 2013.
In August 2017 the 7th floor of our building was completed and earlier this year we saw our first two classes of year 9’s graduate. We now have five parallell classes from year 4-9 and about 940 students. We are very proud of the school we have created and look forward to our continued success in the future.
